ACC sues Atiur Rahman, Abul Barakat over Tk 297cr scam

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 27 individuals, including former Governor of Bangladesh Bank Atiur Rahman and renowned economist Abul Barakat, for allegedly embezzling 297 crore taka in a fraudulent transaction involving Ennotex Group.

The case was filed on Thursday (February 20), at the ACC’s Dhaka integrated district office.

According to ACC sources, the case relates to the alleged embezzlement of 297 crore taka from Janata Bank by Ennotex Company. Among the accused are Atiur Rahman and Abul Barakat, along with 25 others.

The case statement details that Atiur Rahman and his accomplices are accused of misappropriating the funds through various illicit means. Although an investigation into the loan irregularities was conducted by the ACC in 2022, the case was previously closed due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
