The government has sent 33 District Commissioners on Special duty (OSD) who acted as returning officers during controversial 2018 national elections.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued six separate notifications in this regard on Wednesday (February 19).

In five of the notifications, six officials were made OSD in each, while the remaining notification included three officials. 

These 33 officials had served as Returning Officers in the controversial 2018 national election. 

However, the notifications did not mention the reason behind their placement as OSD. Each notification read that the decision was made in the public interest.

Earlier, 12 other officials who were involved in the 2018 election had also been made OSD.

The 2018 national election brought the Awami League to power for a third consecutive term, but its credibility has been widely questioned and debated.
