9 Awami League, Jubo League leaders arrested

As part of the ongoing "Operation Devil Hunt" across the country, police have arrested nine leaders and activists of Awami League and Jubo League in Meherpur in the last 12 hours.

They were detained from different parts of the district between Tuesday night (February 18) and early Wednesday (February 19).

Among the arrestees Kutub Uddin, General Secretary of Bagoan Union Awami League in Mujibnagar, and Abdur Rashid, President of Motmura Union Jubo League in Gangni upazila.

Of them, five were arrested by Mujibnagar police, three by Gangni police, and one by Sadar police. 

The operations were led by Mujibnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman, Gangni OC Bani Israel, and Sadar OC Sheikh Mesbah Uddin.

Kutub Uddin and Abdur Rashid have filed cases against the arrestees under extortion and anti-terrorism laws.

Meherpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Maksuda Akter Khanom confirmed the matter, saying the detainees will be taken to court in the afternoon.
