Journalist Masuma Islam, a Rajshahi based reporter of a private TV channel, passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka early Tuesday (February 18). 

She was injured in a road accident four days ago.

Masuma Islam was working for Ekhon Television, Rajshahi bureau.

Masuma, originally from Narayanpur in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore, was traveling to her in-laws' house in Cumilla with her husband on February 14. While getting off a bus near the Noorjahan Hotel on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway to hire a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, a speeding bus hit them. The accident left Masuma, her husband, and the CNG driver injured.

She was first taken to Cumilla Sadar Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment. As her condition did not improve, she was moved to a private hospital in the capital, where she was placed on life support. 

She died around 4:15 am on Tuesday (Feb 18).

Journalists in Rajshahi have expressed deep sorrow over her death and extended condolences to her bereaved family.
