BNP Vice-Chairman and former minister Abdullah Al Noman passed away while undergoing treatment in Dhaka early today. He was 82.

His personal assistant Nurul Azim Hiru confirmed the matter.

He breathed his last around 6 am at Square Hospitals in Dhaka, he added.

He was rushed to the hospital feeling unwell but was declared dead upon arrival.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep sorrow over his passing, praying for the salvation of his soul and extending condolences to his family.

His death has left BNP leaders and activists, particularly in his home district of Chattogram, in shock.

Following his first Namaz-e-Janaza in Dhaka, Noman's body will be taken to Chattogram.

A prominent political figure, Noman was elected as an MP from the Kotwali constituency in 1991, serving as the Fisheries Minister and later as the Food Minister after winning the 2001 national election.

He hailed from Gohira village in Raozan upazila, Chattogram.
