BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman accused Awami League for failing to secure Bangladesh’s fair share of Teesta River water from India.
BNP Acting Chairman was speaking virtually from London at the concluding session of a 48-hour sit-in and mass gathering organized by the Teesta River Protection Movement on Tuesday (February 18).
He said that if BNP returns to power, it will take the issue to the United Nations and implement the Teesta Master Plan.
Tarique Rahman said that, under international law, Bangladesh has the right to Teesta’s water, but India’s unfair actions have deprived the Bangladesh.
He further alleged that the National River Conservation Commission has been made ineffective for 16 years to serve India’s interests.
BNP also wants good relations with neighboring countries, said Tarique Rahman, adding, that such relations must serve Bangladesh’s national interests.
“If India refuses to ensure Bangladesh’s rightful share of water, BNP will seek alternative measures and take the issue to the United Nations” he added.
