Land management to be digitized nationwide soon: Adviser

Land management across Bangladesh is set to be fully digitized as it is a key priority for the government, announced Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar today (February 17). 

He made the announcement while speaking at the end of the first working session on the second day of the three-day District Commissioner (DC) conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

Majumdar said: “Shifting from the traditional to the digital system has its challenges, but we are gradually overcoming the difficulties faced by the public. Our chief advisor is committed to making land management fully digital. Currently, we are conducting surveys using drones.”

He also said that the government's adoption of modern technology, with plans for further advancements. 

"We are training a skilled workforce, and support from industry companies is steadily increasing. The day when the entire country’s land management is digitized is fast approaching," he also said.

In response to questions regarding the pending applications for e-registration, Majumdar assured that the process was ongoing. 

"The application process continues to move forward. While there have been concerns, the system is expected to be fully operational before March 10," he added.

Senior Secretary of the Land Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed, who was also present at the conference, addressed concerns about the ongoing issues with land management, particularly regarding e-registration. 

He said: "Although some issues persisted until January, they have now been resolved. E-registration is now functioning smoothly, and the number of pending applications has significantly decreased from 450,000. We expect this reduction to continue, leading to less harassment for the public."

Saleh Ahmed expressed confidence that the process would be fully effective by March 10, adding, "The improvements in land management have already reduced people's suffering by 80 percent."
