Journalist couple Farzana-Shakil on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court today (Feb 17) placed journalist couple Farzana Rupa and Shakil Ahmed on a five-day remand in connection with the death of Anowar Hossain Patwari during the mass uprising in Mirpur on August 5, 2024.

This marks the total of 14 days that the journalist couple will spend in remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq issued the order after the two were produced before the court with a five-day remand request in the case, as confirmed by a court staff member.

On November 6 of the previous year, Al-Amin Patwari, the victim's father, lodged a murder case with Mirpur Model Police Station, accusing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 149 others.

Shakil and Rupa were arrested at Dhaka airport on August 21 last year.

The following day, they were remanded for four days in relation to a case filed with Uttara East Police Station concerning the death of Fazlul Karim.

On August 26, they were placed under a five-day remand in a case filed by Adabor Police Station in connection with the death of garment worker Rubel.
