Anwarul Haque Helal has stepped down as the general secretary of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), with his resignation set to take effect on April 1.
Helal, whose contract was renewed earlier this year, cited personal reasons for his decision.
Speaking to BanglaNews24, he confirmed his resignation but declined to elaborate further.
A veteran sports administrator, Helal has held the position for the past decade. Previously, the SAFF general secretary was elected, but since 2014, the role has been a salaried position.
Before joining SAFF, he served as the general secretary of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
His departure marks the end of a significant tenure in South Asian football administration.
