Australia’s Champions Trophy group-stage match against South Africa was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to relentless rain in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
Match officials inspected the conditions and consulted with ground staff around 11:45 GMT before officially calling off the game at 12:15 GMT.
Both Australia and South Africa, having won their opening fixtures, now sit on three points in Group B. A victory in their final group-stage match will secure a semi-final berth for either side.
The washout also impacts England’s qualification hopes. Jos Buttler’s side will now advance to the semi-finals if they defeat Afghanistan on Wednesday and South Africa on Saturday. However, a loss in either fixture would eliminate them from the tournament.
