Five-vehicle crash on Dhaka-Mawa expressway injures 20

A collision involving five vehicles on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Srinagar Upazila’s Kamarkhola area left at least 20 people injured this morning (Feb 17).

The accident occurred in the Dhaka-bound lane due to dense fog, according to locals.

Srinagar Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Md. Dewan Azad Hossain confirmed the incident.

He said that poor visibility led to a chain-reaction crash when a vehicle hit another from behind.

According to the Highway Police and Fire Service, a covered van struck a stationary pickup van amid heavy fog. Moments later, a passenger bus from the Imat Paribahan crashed into them, triggering a pile-up involving five vehicles.

At least 20 people were injured in the accident. Locals, however, took the injured to local hospitals.

The collision caused severe congestion on the Dhaka-bound lane, he added.

Fire service teams arrived promptly to rescue the injured and clear the roadway.

Hasara Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Quader Jilani said, "The accident was likely caused by dense fog. Traffic flow has now returned to normal."
