EC directs IGP to ensure security of voter registration centers

The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure security at voter registration centers during the ongoing voter list update.

EC Deputy Secretary of the Election Support Branch, Md Mahbub Alam Shah, on Sunday (Feb 2) said that the directive has already been sent to the Police Headquarters.

According to the directive, voter registration will take place from February 5 to April 11 based on data collected through door-to-door visits as part of the Voter List Update Program 2025.

The registration process will include the use of laptops, cameras, fingerprint scanners, iris scanners, document scanners, and printers. Plans have been made to determine registration dates and centers at district, upazila, and police station levels. These plans can be collected from respective election offices.

The EC underscored the need for adequate police deployment at registration centers on scheduled dates to ensure security.

A total of 65,000 personnel have been appointed to carry out the voter list update, with a target of adding 1.52% of citizens to the electoral roll.
