Members of National Security Intelligence (NSI) arrested a man along with Gold worth Tk 50.69 lakh from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Wednesday morning.
The detainee, Shahin Al Mamun, a resident of Rangamati, was carrying 400 grams of 22-carat gold ornaments in his hand luggage and trouser pockets.
The gold was recovered after searching the passenger around 9:30 am, acting on a tip-off.
According to market rates, each gram of 22-carat gold is valued at Tk 12,673, making the total worth Tk 50,69,200.
Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, public relations officer at Chattogram airport, said the passenger, holding passport number A-12777893, arrived from Jeddah at 8:36 am on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-136.
The seized gold was handed over to customs authorities for further action, he added.
