The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police arrested former MP Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin from Dhaka-7 constituency.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman, a spokesperson for the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter.
According to him, Mohiuddin was taken into custody from Dhaka's Mohammadpur on Monday morning.
However, details regarding the specific case and police station involved were not disclosed.
According to police, Mohiuddin has been implicated in multiple cases, including murder charges related to incidents during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement protests.
Following mass protests, Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled to India on August 5. Since the interim government assumed power, several former Awami League ministers, state ministers, and influential MPs have been arrested. Mohiuddin’s arrest comes five months after the regime change.
A physician by profession, Mohiuddin was elected as Dhaka-7’s MP in the 2008 general election. The Awami League appointed him as a Presidium member at its national convention on December 24, 2022.
