A Malaysian citizen was detained with 12 gold bars weighing 12 kg, from Hazrat Shahajalal International Airport in the capital.
The incident took place around 11:45 on Friday (November 29), confirmed Al Amin, Joint Commissioner of the Airport Customs Authority.
Flight MH 196 from Malaysia landed at the airport at 11:45 pm. Following the arrival, customs officials placed one of the passengers under surveillance.
Upon inspection and a scan through the archway detector, they uncovered 12 gold bars hidden on the individual. Each bar weighs one kilogram, amounting to a total of 12 kilograms.
Authorities are in the process of filing a case against the passenger, the customs official said.
