Three third-year students of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) were electrocuted, and at least 10 others injured, as their picnic bus came into contact with a high-voltage electric line in Sreepur of Gazipur this morning.

The accident occurred around 8:30 am near a factory in Udaikhali village, Telihati Union, when one of six double-decker buses carrying 460 IUT students to Mati Maya Resort tilted slightly to give way to another vehicle.

According to locals, the bus came into contact with an 11,000-volt power line, killing two students on the spot while another died when trying to get off the bus. Witnesses used bamboo sticks to rescue others before the power supply was cut.

The deceased were identified as Shakib, Mahin, and Mozammel. The injured, who suffered burns, are receiving treatment.

Sreepur Police Station OC Joynal Abedin Mondol confirmed the incident.
