Two including BRDB chairman killed in Gopalganj accident

Two people, including the chairman of the BRDB (Bangladesh Rural Development Board) in Gopalganj, were killed in a truck accident on Tuesday (Nov 19) afternoon.

The incident happened around 3:45 PM on the Dhaka-Khulna highway near the Mita Filling Station in Gopalganj.

The deceased were identified as Nurul Islam Sikder Nuru, 48, a prominent businessman and chairman of the BRDB’s Gopalganj sadar upazila, and Manik Mondal Babu, 50, a bitumen plant businessman from Rajbari. Nurul Islam Sikder Nuru was from Sonakuar, Gopalganj, while Manik Mondal was from Rajbari.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident took place when Nurul Islam Sikder was returning on his motorcycle from a construction site in the Kathir area of sadar upazila. As he approached the Mita Filling Station, a Dhaka-bound truck hit their motorcycle.

Both Nuru Sikder and Manik Mondal were thrown under the truck, and Nuru died on the spot. Manik Mondal was seriously injured and was taken to Dhaka for treatment, but he died on the way in the Banga area.

After the incident, the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. The police are investigating the case and efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
Kashiani Highway Police Inspector (SI) Md. Roman Mollah confirmed the matter.
