Bashundhara Kings, the five-time champions of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), began their Bashundhara Group BPL 2024-25 campaign in dominating fashion, securing a resounding 7-0 victory against Chattogram Abahani Ltd at their home ground, the Bashundhara Kings Arena, on Friday.
Despite facing setbacks during their inaugural appearance in the AFC Challenge League (ACL) 2024-25 in Bhutan earlier this season, the Kings opened their domestic campaign on a high note. They had already signaled their intent by defeating Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd 3-1 in the single-leg opener of the Bangladesh 2.0 Challenge Cup 2024-25, Powered by Bashundhara Group, held at the same venue on November 22.
In Friday’s match, French striker Jared Khasa netted twice, finding the back of the net in the 3rd and 39th minutes. Forward Rakib Hossain also contributed a brace, scoring in the 73rd and 84th minutes. Additional goals came from Foysal Ahmed Fahim, Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira, and Mojibor Rahman Jony in the 23rd, 29th, and 70th minutes, respectively.
The league was officially inaugurated by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) senior vice president and Professional League Management Committee (PLMC) chairman Imrul Hassan, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.
“We aim to attract more supporters to the stadiums. From the next round, we are planning to introduce lottery prizes for fans at all BPL venues,” Imrul told reporters during the event.
