Rahul likes it simple, Dimpy prefers colours

Rahul and Dimpy Mahajan`s South Mumbai flat is a perfect example of the cliche that opposites attract.

While Dimpy loves to fill her life and everything around with colours, Rahul prefers to keep it minimal. In fact, he had restricted himself to the basic shades of white and black until recently. Slowly but steadily, Dimpy has managed to introduce Mahajan Jr to more colours — both in his wardrobe and their abode.

Says Rahul, "This was a typical bachelor pad devoid of colours and artifacts. But Dimpy has brought about some welcome changes in the house."

The two bedrooms used by them to store their clothes speaks volumes of their contrasting personalities. While Rahul`s `wardrobe room` reflects his simple taste, Dimpy`s reminds you of a `Barbie-doll` room. Also, she has placed plants in one corner of the house as she likes gardening.

Two walls in the house are made of glass as the couple loves to enjoy the scenic beauty outside.

The sketch adorning the wall behind was made by one of the participants on Rahul Mahajan`s reality show Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. Ask Dimpy if she feels the heat each time she sees the portrait, and pat comes the reply, "Not at all. She was just one of the applicants. In the end, he married me." The cushion covers are hand-picked by Dimpy and candles by Rahul. "If Dimpy is the set designer, I am the lighting guy," says he.

The terrace gives the couple a bird`s eye view of the Worli Sea Link. Rahul reminisces, "Until a few years ago, one could enjoy a 360-degree view of the city — panning from Gateway to Bandra and from Andheri to Mazgaon dock."

Rahul is particularly fond of this lamp. "I really liked it and impulsively picked it up a few years ago," he tells us. The wall was painted according to Dimpy`s choice. It`s one of the most colourful corners in the house.

Colour reigns supreme at Dimpy`s dressing table, reminding you of good old `Barbie-doll` days. Hair accessories, including scrunchies, hairbands and clips, lend character to the mirror.

The couple spotted this copper bathtub in a showroom and took a fancy to it. The shop was shut, but Rahul requested the owner to take the order and got it delivered at home the same evening. They soon realised that installing the bathtub would lead to earthing issues and implemented measures to avoid electric shocks.
