DHAKA: A total of 24 Crore people are affected from Diabetes in the world by 2025 the number will rise to 38 crore.

Among them, in Asia including Bangladesh the number of affected people is 20 percent and it would be 80 percent by the year of 2025.

So, the felt need is to develop a massive awareness among the people in rural and urban areas. ‘Diabetes: Protect Our Future’ with this slogan Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital and Help Foundation jointly organized a free health campaign targeting low income group people of Bau Bazar, Zigatola on Friday last from 8:00am to 12:00 noon.

The medical team was composed of 16 medical professional and 30 local volunteers including medical doctors, paramedics, nurses and technologist.

Around 800 people of different ages received free blood sugar test, blood grouping, blood pressure checking height-weight, BMI and prescription and advices were given by the medical doctors.

One of the prime targets was to identify the number of diabetic patient among the low income groups of people. During the campaign it was found that 150 peoples have already diabetes and 60 peoples are in border line.

Though the low income groups of people have low blood pressure but still they have diabetes. About 25 peoples have just came to know for the first time that they have diabetes during this campaign.

Professor Dr Sarder A Nayeem, Chairman and Professor Dr Jonaid  Shafiq, Managing Director of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital have inaugurated the campaign and chaired as chief guest. Among other the local elites and media personnel were also present in the campaign.
