RANGPUR: Teachers and Employees of Rokeya University continued their movement confining their Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Nurun Nabi at his office.

They are also staging a fast-unto-death programme demanding salary hike and regularization of their jobs for the third day.

They started their agitation programme from Tuesday.

No classes or exams were held on Thursday due to the protest.

University Public Relations Officer Mohammad Ali said confined VC and demonstrators were fall into sick during strike.

The teachers, moreover, submitted a memorandum conveying their seven-point demand on July 25, they started staging work abstention from July 28 and observing strike from August 21, to meet their demands.

Deprived teachers alleged that they have staged several agitation programs for five months to realize the demands.

At one stage, VC Professor Dr Nurun Nabi assured the demonstrators to meet up the demands but no effective step yet to be taken. So, we were forced to stage the hunger strike confining the VC, said the demonstrator.

Staffers said the agitation would continue until there demands are not met.
