DHAKA: Locals torched the banner of Bazlur Rahman Hall of Jagannath University, which was hanged by demonstrating student as part of their hall recovery agitation, on Thursday noon.

Earlier of the day, ignoring police obstruction, a team of agitating students led-by Sheikh Mashrik Hasan Mehedi, Member of Jagannath University Teacher Association and Mahadi Hasan, member of Chhatra Songram Porishad hanged the banner on the plaque of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahaman School.

Later, the locals of the area set fire to the banner at around 12:15pm that prompted a chase and counter chase between students and locals.

Following the incident, tension mounted in the area.

Additional police forces were deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.s
